John G. Morikis is Chairman and Chief Executive Officer at Sherwin-Williams Co (SHW), a $19.9 billion global leader in the paint and coatings industry. He became Chief Executive Officer in January 2016 and Chairman of the Board in January 2017.
Morikis joined Sherwin-Williams in 1984 as a management trainee in the Paint Stores Group and is the first member of this program to become CEO. During his more than 37 years at the Company, Morikis has held positions of increasing responsibility including President and General Manager of the Paint Stores Group and President and Chief Operating Officer.
Morikis holds bachelor’s degrees in both Business Administration and Psychology from Saint Joseph’s College in Rensselaer, Indiana, and a master’s degree in Business from National Louis University in Evanston, Illinois.

In addition to The Sherwin-Williams Company Board of Directors, Morikis is a member of the Board of Directors of Fortune Brands Home & Security, Inc., as well as the American Coatings Association. He also serves as Chairman of the Harvard University Policy Advisory Board, Joint Center for Housing Studies and Vice Chairman of University Hospitals Health System in Cleveland, Ohio. His civic and community board engagements also include serving as a director of the Greater Cleveland Partnership.
